Kim Stallwood to Give the First 2022 Tom Regan Memorial Lecture

Kim Stallwood

On July 20, CAF Board member Kim Stallwood will present the first 2022 Annual Tom Regan Memorial Lecture—entitled The Martin Bicentenary: An Opportunity to Look Back and Imagine the Future—at the AnimalLaw: Visions for the Future Conference, hosted by the U.K. Centre for Animal Law. The subject of his lecture (and the conference is) the bicentenary of the passage of the Cruel Treatment of Cattle Act in 1822, sponsored by Richard “Humanity Dick” Martin.

Kim will examine the history of Martin’s Act, critique present campaigns calling for moral and political concern for animals, and imagine what the animals’ future may be in 2222. The conference will be streamed, and the lecture recorded. A second Tom Regan Memorial Lecture will be presented by legal scholar Charlotte Blattner in Switzerland on October 17.
