Ana Paula Rosillo

CAF awarded a grant to Ana Paula Rosillo for her project, “La Liberación de Kshamenk.”
La Liberación de Kshamenk is a documentary film that preserves the memory and legal legacy of Kshamenk, the only captive orca in South America, who spent 33 years at Mundo Marino before his death. The film seeks to transform his story into a cultural turning point, shifting the perception of animals from objects to subjects of rights, and building the case for a definitive ban on cetacean captivity.
Told through a chorus of voices, La Liberación de Kshamenk spans decades of activism and legal struggle, including a landmark habeas corpus effort led by Dr. Elena Liberatori, the judge whose team successfully declared the orangutan Sandra a “non-human person.” The film also dismantles the myth of marine parks as educational institutions, exposing the ethical harm of captivity.
CAF’s grant will support the integration of key international testimonies, the filming of an artistic scale model that serves as a narrative through-line, and full technical post-production including color correction, sound design, and English/Spanish subtitling for international festival and streaming distribution.
Ana Paula Rosillo is a graduate in Social Communication from Universidad Nacional de Entre Rios and Professor of Communication at UCALP Rosario. She lives in Santa Fe, Argentina.
