Fresh from her 2024 Tom Regan Research Fellowship at NCSU’s Animal Rights & Welfare Libraries, and her 2024–2025 fellowship at the National Center for the Humanities, philosopher Sarah Scott (left) will deliver the 2025 Tom Regan Memorial Lecture.
The subject is the philosophical and political legacy of the extraordinary Anglo-Irish philosopher, theologian, social reformer, and leading anti-vivisectionist Frances Power Cobbe (1822–1904). The lecture will take place in the 150th anniversary year of the founding of the National Anti-Vivisection Society in the UK, and the 40th anniversary of CAF’s founding. The respondent will be Sue Leary (right), President Emerita of the Alternatives Research & Development Foundation (ARDF) and the American Anti-Vivisection Society (AAVS), who will reflect on the current efforts to end invasive animal experimentation in the context of a 150-year struggle.
The lecture, which will be held on October 30 at Manhattan University in New York City, will be recorded and streamed live, and will launch a new collaboration between CAF and the AAVS. Starting in 2026, AAVS will underwrite select projects in CAF’s annual grant program for artists whose work focuses on animals, science, creativity, and social change. More information on the lecture and the AAVS collaboration are on CAF’s website and in September’s and October’s newsletter. So, please subscribe.
