The Black Veganism Oral History Project In Full Swing

The Black Veganism Oral History Project, sponsored by the Culture & Animals Foundation and coordinated by Tracye McQuirter (left) and Marya McQuirter, began in the spring and is scheduled to conclude this fall.

With twenty in-depth interviews with twenty Black vegan leaders, scholars, and activists, the BVOHP creates a publicly accessible archive of video, audio, and transcript materials documenting the diverse intersections of veganism with social justice, environmental advocacy, spirituality, culture, and identity. It is hoped that the archive will be available via a major research institution (news coming soon). By expanding the historical record and challenging narrow perceptions of the vegan movement, the project aims to provide an enduring resource for researchers, educators, advocates, and future generations who wish to explore the richness, dynamism, and complexity of Black vegan thought and activism.
